Today, I want you to take a look at one of the best iPhone cases I’ve owned to date. That’s right, I said it. You know how critical we are around here tossing out the word, “best”. It’s hard to say anything is the best when there are so many other similar products floating around out there we have yet to experience. When we consider something the best, it will always be referred to as “one of the best we’ve had first hand experience with”.
Now that I got that off my chest, let me introduce you to the Carved Satellite Series iPhone 6/6S Traveler Wood Case. Over the years like many of you, I have owned a number of smartphones and a ridiculous amount of cases. I have a drawer in my office labeled, “Smartphone Case Graveyard” where most eventually end up. Within that drawer I have two bins, one labeled “Protective”, and the other, “Proud”. Protective cases are those that have thrown aesthetics out the window in favor of waterproofing, serious drop protection and other duties like giving your phone to your 5 year old. Proud cases are those that are usually engineered by designers. People who favor fashion first. This is where the Carved case comes into play.
Would you look at that case right there. If that isn’t one of the most handsome cases you’ve seen, please drop me a comment below and tell me what is. The back of the Carved case is made from real wood. The Satellite Series specifically is a line of unique, one-off cases. That means, if you see a new Satellite Series case pop up on the Carved website, you best grab it before it’s gone. When I spotted this one I knew I had to have it. It reminds me of driftwood splashing its way to shore.
Although, I did put this case in the ‘Proud’ category, the flexible polycarbonate rubber sides provide great protection from drops. It wraps nicely around the phone with enough of a lip to protect the screen as well. Carved also nailed it with the additional grip added to both sides of the case. If you’re in the business of making smartphone cases and you don’t incorporate some type of grip, you’ve failed in my book. Not only does the grip help me hold the phone, it feels nice on my fingers and gives me peace of mind.
All of the ports are large enough to clearly hear the phone, plug in headphones and the lighting port opening is large enough to accept most aftermarket cables. I was worried about this as most slim case makers don’t consider this (take note).
The opening for the camera and flash is generous, almost large enough to sneak on one of my Amazon clip-on lenses. Darn.
Make sure you click on these images to see the larger version. The detail in the wood is something you really need to experience first hand. It looks and feels just as nice as it looks in the images.
Carved is a small company based in Elkhart, Indiana. They’ve been creating cases and skins for smartphones and tablets since 2011. Their lineup now includes products for Apple, Samsung, and Google devices. They even have their very own Wood Power Bank. It’s a nice touch seeing the signatures from the people who had their hands (literally) in manufacturing my iPhone 6 case as it is, One Of A Kind.
If you haven’t already figured it out, all of the Carved cases are Made in America. You know how passionate we are about the Made in USA Movement and supporting Small Business. Although, you can’t buy this exact case, Carved has a number of other Satellite Series cases available as well as their 100% Wood case line and many others.
When I said this is one of the best iPhone cases I’ve owned, I meant it. It’s definitely among my Top 5. Enough protection for daily duty, feels great in my hand, the phone slips in and out with ease, I can use my aftermarket lighting cable and it looks, well you know how I feel about that.
Head on over to Carved today and grab your own. Make sure to let them know you saw the case here. Oh, I almost forgot, this case and many of their others are ready to fit both the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus coming this Fall.
The Carved cases are Made in USA, provide great protection and the wood is truly handsome. You spent hundreds on your phone, make it unique with the right case. I highly recommend you give them a look.
