May 2015 saw Bremont announce a partnership with the America’s Cup Event Authority and Oracle Team USA to be the Official Timing Partner of the 35th America’s Cup and Oracle Team USA. As the first official British timing partner to the America’s Cup since 1851, Bremont has embarked on a very exciting project to produce a special edition series of timepieces to celebrate its involvement.
Giles English, Bremont Co-Founder; “Bremont is incredibly proud to be involved in such a historical event, not least of all to be the only watch company allowed to build a watch associated with the 35th America’s Cup and Oracle Team USA. The America’s Cup is possibly the only team extreme sport out there; these boats are built using pioneering technology which makes the race more exhilarating to watch with each Cup. We’re excited to see these new watches be put through their paces on the water, they will certainly be Tested Beyond Endurance.”
The build-up to the 35th America’s Cup is well underway and Oracle Team USA have relocated to Bermuda to test and sail on the waters that will host the adrenaline-fuelled event in 2017. With Australian skipper Jimmy Spithill at the helm, the team will be looking to secure their third consecutive win. Jimmy became the youngest ever skipper to win the Cup with Oracle Team USA in 2010, and oversaw their remarkable 2013 victory, thrilling audiences with one of the greatest comebacks in sporting history.
The America’s Cup Series is a classic watch collection befitting the history of the Cup and Bremont has launched two Special Edition watches, the Bremont AC I and AC II. These models have been inspired by the legendary J-Class yachts of the 30s, both classic and beautiful. Carrying the ‘London’ mark on the dial, all of the watches are built in the UK using the highest quality components. The watches are also delivered in Bremont’s English made America’s Cup leather wallets.
The Bremont AC I (above right) carries sea blue steel hands and a fine ivory white opaline dial embossed with outlines of the Cup. Taking its design from the Bremont SOLO range, this is the first time Bremont has introduced a polished steel version. The movement and robust anti-shock movement mount can be viewed through the sapphire crystal exhibition case back. The hand polished case is water resistant to 100m and comes on a blue Temple Island rubber strap.
The Bremont AC II (above left) is a bi-compact chronograph made from rose gold inspired by the iconic polished ALTI-C. Beautifully shaped blue steel hands are set against a fine ivory white opaline dial. The ACII is an archetypal watch that resonated well with the history of the America’s Cup. A subtle motif of the Auld Mug is outlined on the two sub-dials offering a refined pattern to the face of the watch. The impeccably modified Valjoux 7750-SO BI AC movement can be seen through the exhibition case back.
The Oracle Team USA Series was created partnering with Oracle Team USA, the current defenders of the America’s Cup, Bremont has a very special and unique opportunity to work with them to create a practical and beautifully engineered collection of sailing watches, setting a new standard in technical innovation, precision and durability.
The Bremont Oracle I (above right) is a purpose built timepiece that is constructed to be used on or in the water, as a reliable piece of equipment for any seafarer. The design has evolved from the Bremont Submarine range that is used by divers and military around the world for its durability and robustness. It incorporates the Oracle Team USA branding on an off-white dial together with applied index numbering. The red tipped minuted hand and cast case back clearly indicate this is a Team associated watch. The case is also built with a sapphire crystal uni-directional rotating bezel that is 500m water resistance. Bremont’s anti-shock movement and anti-magnetic Faraday cage are also onboard with their BE-36AE movement. Each case also incorporates an automatic helium valve.
The Bremont Oracle II (above left) is built on the same principles as the Oracle I, using similar case technology but with a second time zone enabling GMT functionality. A striking fine varnished matte black dial draws your attention to the applied index markers with America’s Cup written just above the ‘6’. The Oracle II is also water resistant to 500m using the same anti-shock and anti-magnetic technologies as the Oracle I. Movement is a modified caliber 13 1/4″ BE-92-2AE. An automatic helium valve is also onboard.
This is a very exciting time for Bremont. They are bringing excitement to the timepiece world partnering with top brands like Jaguar, opening a new boutique in NYC, and we’ve even seen a special edition Kingsman watch recently. This is as good a time as any to add a Bremont timepiece to your collection.
