Did you know that Tom Hanks is quite the typewriter aficionado? Us either. Apparently, he can pick the year, make and model of just about any flying ribbon machines ever produced. Launched last week, the Hanx Writer App turns your iPad into an old fashioned typewriter, offering an analog experience. Hipsters rejoice! As you would assume, pressing the keys provides you with that old school bang and slap you remember from back in the day (for those of us old enough to remember). That wizzz-slap hard return sound is also present at the end of each line.
If you closely at the image above, you will see we gave the app a try for ourselves. With kids using iPads for assignments these days, it would be wonderful to see this app implemented into schools. No autocorrect, no first letter cap rules, it doesn’t fix your grammar, etc. It really forces you to pay attention to what you’re writing. While that will be bothersome to some, for those of us that love to write, its pretty neat.
If the free model doesn’t excite you enough, you can purchase the Hanx 707 and Hanx Golden Touch models for a little extra. Other purchase options include Text Align, Ribbon Colors and App Background Colors. The app was designed by Tom Hanks himself, they didn’t just steal and slap his name on it.
You can pick up the app FREE on iTunes right here.
