Gear Heads, Moto Junkies, Auto Geeks, whatever you want to call us, have been waiting for a worthy contender to enter the electric automotive market that does more than just save us at the pump. There are already a number of great electric cars that look good, are fairly quick and save you from spending thousands a year on fuel. What we haven’t seen is a true, American Made E-Supercar.
At $529,000, the new Renovo Coupe hits hard into the Supercar category pricing it out of most garages. With a design that closely resembles a Shelby Daytona Coupe, the Renovo is definitely something Steve McQueen would drive had he been around for the E-Car Marketplace. Founded in 2010, Renovo Motors is lead by a team of focused Silicone Valley engineers, backed by investors and steered by a wealth of veteran automotive industry executives. They’ve been working on the Coupe for over four years and just released the first running prototype at Pebble Beach last Friday.
So, what do you get for half a million dollars? You get the only Made in USA vehicle that is powered by twin-electric sequential motors that produce over 500 horsepower and a crazy 1,000 pound-feet of torque. Every morsel of that power is available from a dead stop, letting the Couple hit 0-60mph in just 3.4 seconds. The chassis is a genuine, factory modified Shelby American CSX9000 using a 4-wheel independent and unequal-length, A-arm suspension. Unlike ANY other electric car on the market, the Coupe’s HVP 740-volt lithium-ion battery pack has the ability to recharge in 30 minutes. That’s nearly double the power of the Tesla Model S. Those all-day wait times are going to become a thing of the past.
