You’d be hard pressed to think the new LG G Watch R is a smartwatch. That is, until a notification pops up and completely changes the screen graphic. The new watch is going to be released at the IFA 2014 show next week. For now, we have is some insider details and a couple of images to share with you.
The new R model (R is for round?) is the second Android Wear smartwatch from LG this year. It features the world’s first Plastic OLED display, with a circular face that uses 100% of its screen. Unlike the Moto 360, which we are still shocked hasn’t found a way to program around the missing lower chunk of its screen. We love the surrounding bezel of the R, it looks very much like an analog watch. Inside is a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor from Qualcomm, 4GB of onboard storage space, 512MB of RAM and a battery rated to 410mAh.
For active users, you can pair the new R watch with an optical heart rate sensor, something you cannot get in the original G Watch. The watch comes with a 22mm calfskin leather black strap, but any 22mm strap will work. It is IP67 rated, so it should keep all dust out and you can swim with it for up to 30 minutes in a meter deep of water.
The IFA show starts in Berlin next week. We should have more information then so be sure to check back!
