Looking to improve upon their very successful Ambit2 line of watches, Suunto is getting set to launch the Ambit3 Collection this September. This time around we are seeing new ways to stay and get connected on your wrist. The new Ambit3 is their first bluetooth enabled watch line. Using their Movescount iOS app, the new watch will display text and call notifications, Facebook likes/events and even lets you take photos (with your phone) that display realtime speed and distance.
The new watch comes in two models. The Ambit3 Sport is designed for runners, swimmers and cyclists while their flagship watch the new Ambit3 Peak, is loaded with features like route navigation, altimeter, barometric pressure information and much more for the outdoorsman/explorer. Available on both models, the new Smart Sensor for heart rate monitoring now allows you to track your heart rate during swimming exercises.
Suunto Movescount Mobile App Features
- Access Movescount and customize watch on the go
- Notifications from phone displayed on watch
- Use phone as an additional watch screen (perfect for cycling)
- Upload and view your moves instantly
- Take photos with automatic data overlay and share on the go
- Create, view and share Suunto Movies with one tap
- Ability to use Movescount platform without a watch
So, what does this mean for current Ambit2 users? Looks like you’re going to have to upgrade your watch in order to take advantage of all the new features. We can only hope a few of these features may get firmware updates to Ambit2 and previous models because the ability to customize your GPS/Fitness watch on the go is a must for any watch like this. Previous models need to be connected to a computer in order to make changes.
The new collection looks great and if the quality is anything like previous Suunto offerings, the watches will look great, take a beating and last a long time. Look for the new collection to drop this September. Learn more at Suunto.
