Well, the “Super-Bike” category is officially, official. With a number of bicycles now climbing well above $10,000, it seems the market for big ticket items is still on the rise. Building off their all-new 2015 Tarmac, the new S-Works McLaren version will set you back in the neighborhood of $20,000. Only 250 of these bad boys will be made so if you plan on dishing out the coin needed to bring one home, you best act fast. Reservations to purchase the bike begin today through the end of July.
There are other perks to purchasing a bike like this one other than bragging to your riding buddies. Your purchase also comes with matching S-Works road shoes and a Prevail helmet. All 250 buyers will receive a unique invitation to a select Specialized dealer to meet with a Body Geometry Fit expert to make sure every piece of your new steed fits like a glove. Oh yes one more thing before I forget, you will also get a color matched, wall-mounted stand to proudly display your bike over your couch or most likely, your bed. At $20,000, I’d probably sleep with it, have breakfast with it and well…
Riders Jacob Fuglsang of Astana, and Nicholas Roche of Tinkoff-Saxo will race the McLaren Tarmac at the Tour this year starting next week. Like previous McLaren versions, the Tarmac uses a special carbon layup process that has been developed with McLaren engineers to achieve an extremely lightweight design without compromising strength and performance. The components chosen for this bike are among the best money can buy. A Shimano Dura-Ace 9070 Di2 drivetrain is spotted along with EE Cycleworks brakes, and a Roval CLX40R tubular wheelset (exclusive to the McLaren Tarmac saving 90g per wheel compared to what the public can purchase). The crankset, stem, and handlebars will be selected at your time of purchase.
