When we first heard of the 2015 Polaris Slingshot, we weren’t really sure what to call it. Is it a motorcycle? How about a roadster? Nope. Something like this is more defined by the word ‘trike’, we think. But, its a trike on serious steroids. Can you say Ariel Atom, less one wheel? The Slingshot starts around $19,999, fully loaded in the neighborhood of $25,000. It’s packed with a 2.4L engine, 5-speed manual transmission and a lightweight polymer body surrounding a steel, tubular chassis.
Getting power from the engine to the back wheel is a carbon belt-drive system inside an aluminum swing arm. Coilovers front and rear keep the Slingshot’s suspension actively hugging you to the ground for peak cornering and balance. As this is an open-air vehicle, you will need to wear a helmet and may need a motorcycle license to pilot your new ride. There is no optional top for when it rains but the seats are waterproof.
