Those of us with iPhones have been waiting for Apple to launch an infotainment system for some time. That time is now. Apple CarPlay was officially announced today. Teaming up with Volvo, Ferrari, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz and Volvo, Apple promises to bring on new auto manufacturers rapidly. The new system will be available on select 2014 models. CarPlay pairs with your iPhone running iOS7 and enables you to control your favorite apps from the touch screen system in your car. The ability to make phone calls, text message, get directions, listen to your favorite streaming music service and more, all through Siri. We’re sorry iPhone 4/4S users, the new system calls for lighting cable connections only, which means a 5S, 5C or 5 is required.
New vehicles outfitted with CarPlay will come in a variety of controls options depending on manufacturer. You may see a fully-integrated touch screen, a twist-knob control or voice-activated button controls on the steering wheel. Look for the new vehicles to show up at dealership soon and head on over here to grab more info for now.
